Automatic Bill Payment Plan

Relieve the Pressure of Making Utility Payments

The City of Fort Lauderdale offers the option of Automatic Bill Payment (Direct Payment) for your convenience.

What is Direct Payment?

Direct payment is an efficient electronic payment alternative to paper checks. When you use direct payment, you authorize a company to electronically collect a pre-authorized amount from your checking or savings account to pay a bill. So, instead of writing a check every month, your bank will automatically make the payment on the due date of your bill. It's that simple.

Why Use Direct Payment?

Consumers and companies both benefit from direct payment. As a consumer, you'll save time preparing payments, save money on postage and check fees, improve your budgeting, eliminate the chance of late payment, and save time balancing your bank statement. Companies benefit by processing payments more efficiently and crediting them to your account quicker.

How to Apply for Direct Payment

To set up direct payment, simply download an Enrollment Form PDF File, print and fill it out, and return it with your next bill (or mail it directly to Customer Service, 100 N. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301).

Questions?

1. How long will it take after I fill out the Enrollment Form to begin paying my bill by automatic bank payment?
Enrollment takes one to two months, so remember to keep making monthly payments until you receive the confirmation message on your utility statement. When you receive the first bill which reads "your account will have an ACH deduction" you will know you are on automatic bill payment.

2. Why do I need to attach a pre-printed, voided check?
Attaching a pre-printed, voided check is required to ensure all bank account information is correct. It helps to avoid mistakes which may slow down the process.

3. What if I plan to change banks?
If you plan to change banks, please call (954) 828-5150 promptly. Then, simply complete and sign a new Enrollment Form and attach a voided check from your new account.

4. Will I continue to receive a monthly Utility Bill?
Yes. You will continue to receive your bill as usual. You will know the exact date of payment before it is deducted from your account. If you have a question about your bill, you can call and get it resolved.

5. Who will have control over my account?
You are the only person who has control over your account. When you sign up to pay your utility bill by Automatic Bill Payment, you are not giving the City of Fort Lauderdale control over your account, you are simply authorizing payment to be made each month to the City of Fort Lauderdale.

6. Do I have to sign up again if I am already on the plan?
No, you do not.
